This laptop came in with complaints of overheating and random shutting down while in use. It seemed like the fan was not spinning. We took the machine apart (yes we make it sound easy), and found the fan had become clogged up with dust, and as a result the fan motor had burnt out. Also, the dust had got into other parts of the laptop, and was blocking the vents where air would normally escape. We replaced the faulty laptop fan, cleaned all the dust out and replaced the worn thermal paste with new high quality Arctic MX4. Result: cooler and happier laptop!
We had an old-style Macbook Pro come in for a visit today. It looked very ill on first sight, but after further diagnosis and a bit of TLC, Dr.Martin managed to repair this Macbook Pro. Now the MacBook Pro is healthy and working like a steam engine running on nuclear energy!!
There are lots of things that can spoil your day. My personal worst / “best” is Monday morning at work – always 5 more days till weekend left. Obviously, not everyone has such trivial issues. For others there are black cats, broken mirrors, Fridays the 13th or broken screens. As the first three may be dictated by puuuure destiny the last one is governed by the powerful Murphy’s laws : – If anything can go wrong, it will at the most unfortunate time. – If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong. –…
Before – dusty and hot and noisy… Process = disassembly, cleaning the dust off, removing old cooling paste, applying new cooling paste, assembling back together After – nice and clean and cool and quiet ;)
Very important that your laptop doesn’t overheat – especially with machines such as this! Picture shows a build up of dust inside the heatsink/fan area. This build up creates a blanket over the heat dissipation area. All cleaned out, fans greased up and cleaned and new thermal paste applied to help conductivity. Afterwards stress tested and monitored temperatures to ensure the deep clean was effective. Result: Happy laptop!
It’s very important that your laptop is able to extract heat from away from the processor, hard drive, ram and the rest of the motherboard. As you can see from the pictures, the fan and heatsink are clogged up with dust, turning it into a blanket (and keeping in the heat). Imagine this heat build up over time, re-circulating inside the laptop, and you have the perfect recipe for a disaster. At Laptop Doctor, we recommend get your laptop deep cleaned at least once a year (if you want your laptop to live longer).
A classic water-damaged laptop. – Liquid spilled on laptop – Apple quoted customer £850 to fix it (H-H-H-H-H-HOW MUCH?????) – Customer almost gave up hope – We did some magic, and brought it back to life – We put the motherboard through our special liquid treatment process….. … and then there was light! Another save… Another laptop brought back to life… Another happy customer (didn’t have to waste money on a new laptop)… Another score for Laptop Doctor. DON’T SPILL LIQUID ON YOUR LAPTOP! THEY DON’T LIKE WATER! However, mistakes happen. If you’re unlucky enough to have sent your laptop for a swim, bring it in to Laptop Doctor…
